The Emergency Room at Ward Memorial Hospital is a Level IV Trauma Center. This designation indicates that the ER has met and passed inspection for the criteria set forth by TDH (Texas Department of Health). Ward Memorial Hospital ER is well prepared to care for and stabilize any emergency including the most severe situation, regardless of age, handicap, race, nationality, or ability to pay.  Most emergencies require immediate attention, which is easily accessed at Ward Memorial.  Fast attention prevents a lengthy trip to a bigger city along with a wait that can commonly be several hours long.  Ward Memorial Hospital ER provides medical and trauma treatment and stabilization for the 836 square miles of Ward County as well as surrounding counties.  Approximately 5000 patients are cared for each year in the Emergency Room by the well trained staff at Ward Memorial.

All Medical and Nursing Staff in the ER have advanced training in ACLS, PALS, ATLS and TNCC so you get the same high quality of service and advanced technology that you expect to receive at a bigger hospital.  The difference is more personal care and usually much faster treatment.  If an emergency condition requires more advanced care than Ward Memorial is able to offer, patients are rapidly stabilized, and transferred by Ward Memorial's EMS service to a higher level facility where care is continued.
