The majority of life-threatening emergencies occur in the home, when there is no medical assistance available.  That's when the EMS team is called by dialing 911.  Most Often, the first to address an emergency is an EMS team.  Ward Memorial EMS is staffed with qualified and experienced Paramedics and EMTs.  They are located across the street from the hospital and near the majority of  the residential areas in Monahans, so response time is minimal.  Ward Memorial EMS has three Ambulance Units with Mobile Intensive Care Unit capabilities.  Two are staffed 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.  The newest unit was purchased in 2005 and is equipped with the latest in Life Support Technologies.

Besides the Ground Ambulance Units, Ward Memorial EMS works with Aerocare Air Ambulance Service and MCH CareStar to provide fast airlift transfers from either the site of the emergency or the landing zone in the Ward Memorial Hospital parking lot.

As well as providing excellent emergency response services, Ward Memorial EMS is involved in many public service programs.  Each year, they sponsor the Child Safety Seat Program which provides Education and Child Safety Seats to members of the community.  Ward Memorial EMS also provides CPR classes to the community when needed.  Ward Memorial EMS is a member of the Regional Advisory Council (RAC), area "J", whose purpose is to provide consistent trauma care to patients in the region.

Ward Memorial EMS covers approximately 825 square miles encompassing Monahans, Wickett, Pyote, and Thortonville as well as back-up coverage to Grandfalls, Royalty and Barstow and responses into Crane and Ector County on Interstate 20.  The EMS team works hand-in-hand with the Monahans Fire, Police, and Sheriff Departments to provide the community with the best, most complete emergency care possible.
